SUMMARY:

Born in Budapest at the turn of the 20th century, John von Neumann is one of the most influential scientists to have ever lived. From the Manhattan Project to the first ever programmable digital computer, his fingerprints are all over our modern world.

In this talk, Ananyo Bhattacharya will explore how a combination of genius and unique historical circumstance allowed a single man to sweep through so many different fields of science, sparking revolutions wherever he went.

Copies of Ananyo's book 'The Man from the Future: The Visionary Life of John von Neumann' are available from Amazon and all good book shops.

SPEAKER:

Ananyo Bhattacharya holds a PhD in physics from Imperial College London, and has worked as a science correspondent at the Economist, an editor at Nature, and a medical researcher at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in San Diego, California. He lives in London.
